Karaoke Idol Video Contest Rules
The Video Contest is set apart from the singing competition. You do not have to be a contestant in the singing competition to be a KI video contestant, although you are welcome to audition for and participate in both.
Video themes and what we'd like to see. You must produce a creative and entertaining karaoke music video each week of Karaoke Idol which follows a weekly theme set by the Video Director. The song can be any from any genre and does not necessarily have to match the weekly theme, but the theme must clearly be conveyed in the video. If you are also a contestant in the singing competition, you are welcome to use one of your weekly song submissions for your video submission too, but the video itself must follow the theme set by the Video Director.
You may use your webcam or (if you're more advanced with media software) you may opt to film and edit your video. All videos will be judged equally on the basis of:
- Originality
- Content
- Presentation
- Theme adhesion
- Overall entertainment value
Videos are expected to be visually stimulating and capable of holding the audience's interest. Although you are required to sing/use your own karaoke song in the video, you are being judged mostly on your visual work, not on your singing ability. Be as creative as you can! Use of costumes, props, decorative backgrounds and sets, choreography, creative imagery and anything else that would be captivating to watch is encouraged!
Deadlines. Video themes will be posted by the Video Director each Sunday night following the KI Shows on the Video page. Video contestants are to have their video submissions turned in by Thursday at 6pm CST each week. Failure to meet this deadline may result in disqualification.
Judging and Finals. There are three judges who will score videos on a scale of 1 - 25 (1 being the worst, 25 being the best). The lowest scoring video contestants will be eliminated each week; the remaining video contestants will move onto the next round. There will ultimately be three Video Finalists and one Karaoke Idol 8 Video Contest winner, who will win the Video Contest title and be eligible to participate in the 2010 Karaoke~Idol All-Stars to compete for cash and prizes.
Video Results Announced on the KI Spotlight Show. Your videos will be critiqued on the Karaoke Idol Spotlight Show which airs from blogtalkradio.com and is also accessible through the Karaoke Idol chat, http://www.karaokeidolchat.com on Sunday nights at 6pm CST. All KI video contestants must be present during the live Spotlight broadcast; if you are unable to make it, then you must give the KI producer as much advance notice as possible.
Video Fan Favorite. There will also be a video fan favorite poll set up each week; video contestants will want to encourage their family and friends to vote for them everyday. If a video contestant is also a contestant in the singing competition, then they will only be listed in the fan favorite poll for the singing category they are in to prevent double wins. Only one vote per IP address per day will be counted. Eliminated video contestants will still be included in this poll throughout the duration of Karaoke Idol 8. The video fan favorite winner will be determined by the most total votes earned. The winner will also earn a spot in the 2010 Karaoke~Idol All-Star competition!
